Why should I buy organic?  What’s the difference anyway?

Think of your sweet little newborn, his squishy cheeks and soft skin.  You want to give him the best possible start.  You make choices about all kinds of things when it comes to baby’s well-being.  Health and safety are often the deciding factor in the decision making process.  One thing we don’t always consider when choosing products for our babies is whether or not they are organic.  Organic baby products are usually more expensive and at first glance look very similar to their non-organic counterpart.  So why should you choose organic baby products over non-organic?  Read on for some compelling reasons why your next choice for what to put next to baby’s skin should be organic.

Cotton accounts for only 3% of the world’s agriculture but nearly 24% of the world’s insecticide and 11% of the world’s pesticide use.  Over 1/3 of a pound of fertilizers, chemicals and pesticides goes into the production of every non-organic cotton garment you own.  Think about that the next time you pull a cotton onesie over your baby’s head.

Buy organic cotton because it’s good for the planet.  No pesticides or herbicides to get into the water or air and kill off wildlife.  Certified organic cotton is grown using sustainable growing practices.  Untreated seeds are used (no chemicals or genetic modification).  Natural fertilizers are used.  Crops are rotated.  Defoliation is left up to nature’s freezing rather than a chemical application.  Beneficial insects are introduced to cut the population of bad ones so a natural balance is maintained.  The soil retains nutrients and the water and air stay clean for future generations. 

Buy organic cotton because it’s just better.  The care in preparation of organic products often results in a higher quality end product than those mass produced with only one thing in mind – profit.  There is nothing quite like the luxuriously earthy feel of organic cotton next to your skin.    Often organic items like ours’ are hand made.  Purchasing hand-made items stimulates the economy and benefits families who produce them as well as preserves the art forms used to create the products. 

If we care so much about babies, the environment, the economy, etc. why don’t we offer only organic products?  The short answer: bottom line.  It costs too much and we have found that the majority of our customers aren’t always willing to pay what we have to charge.  At least we are able to offer organic baby carriers as an option – one we hope you choose.  Will our non-organic carriers kill your baby?  Absolutely not!  The fabrics are washed and equally as safe as any other non-organic baby product out there.  We are always working toward the goal of becoming a 100% organic company and you can help us reach that goal!
